Season me this

Recently, a friend, a college transplant from out of state, lamented to me that California “doesn’t have seasons” and that she dearly missed them back home. I think she just meant they are less pronounced over here, or at least in the Bay Area. She got me thinking and reflecting…
As of now Spring has been passing the seasonal baton to Summer in its usual ways. The rolling hills have shed their green winter wardrobes for sleek summery numbers; compliments to the Sun for allowing them to shimmer so brilliantly from afar. The days grow longer while attire becomes shorter, true to the seasons, revealing both pale, winterized skin as well as already sun-kissed, tanned extremities. Summer beckons with the usual onslaught of finals, graduations, expensive plane tickets and weddings.
Just a snapshot of a season I look forward to. Yes, we definitely have our seasons here.

Saw the picture on the tag surfer and was swept in by the words in your post. I’m a native Californian and I know the seasons here well. Not as pronounced as they are in other sections of the country, California has seasons filled with subtly and changes in light. It’s a place where the seasons have as much to do with what elevation you’re at as what time of year it is. Variety that can’t be beat.
Nice to know there’s someone else out there who likes the California seasons as much as I do!

geekhiker: Thanks for the comment; I have to agree that the variety California offers is great and goes far beyond the typical images Hollywood has portrayed for so long.
i kosi: I’m still learning the “ways of the tree” but perhaps a few posts to come here will reveal more about that ;). Thanks for stopping by.
chrisjbrooks: Yes, the summer sun is definitely nice, especially when there is a fantastic beach nearby :).
